The Faculty of Civil Engineering is one of the leading faculties in terms of scientific production at the University and one of the leaders in Civil Engineering study area across the Baltic and Eastern European region. The faculty is actively conducting both scientific and significant experimental research, and is implementing doctoral studies. Faculty members use building constructions, geotechnical studies and other laboratories equipped with the most advanced research facilities. For more than a decade, the Faculty of Civil Engineering regularly organizes international scientific conferences involving hundreds of scientists from around the world. The faculty publishes seven prestigious scientific journals included in international databases.

  • Structures computing theory and optimization techniques.
  • Building structures reliability and Architectural and Engineering interaction.
  • Strength, stress-strain analysis, structural strengthening, standards improvements, and design of physical models of bridges and special structures.
  • Reinforced concrete mechanics and automated construction design; reliability of new material and construction as well as structures with low energy absorption.
  • Rational groundwork, application of digital methods for estimation of building-foundation interaction.
  • Steel structures, composite steel-concrete and timber-concrete structures research.
  • Human safety and ergonomic problems analysis.
  • New composite materials development, theoretical and experimental aspects of construction products from local raw materials quality and durability assessment and improvement.
  • Multicriteria decision support systems in construction.
  • Building systems and forecasting. Energy consumption savings, alternative energy sources.
  • Multicriteria decision support systems in construction and projects total quality management.
  • Construction investment efficiency evaluation and audit
  • Construction industry, housing and real estate sector modeling and future projections.
  • Real estate appraisal.
  • E-commerce, artificial intelligence technology on the Internet.
Currently, five scientific journals are being regularly issued by VGTU Faculty of Civil Engineering; information, based on the research results presented at republican and international conferences, is being regularly updated. Scientific publications are being recognized and especially valued at the international level.
